How To Remove Ink Stains From Your Leather Sofa
Ink stains tend to be annoying. They can either come from a careless mistake or a toddler that decided to use the sofa as its new canvas. Below you will find a simple guide on how to deal alone with these stains.
Hairspray Method
It may not sound like a professional way to do it but it’s easy to do it at home.
- Spray a small amount of the stained area.
- Give it around 5 minutes to soak in the ink.
- Then get a soft dry cloth and gently wipe the hair spray from the leather.
Try not to rub too hard because that may damage the leather. If needed, repeat the process until the stain is completely removed.
- Damp a piece of cloth and gently rub where the stain used to be.
- Apply leather conditioner with a soft cloth on where the spot used to be. That way the leather will be again moisturised.
Removing stains with the help of alcohol
This method works best when the ink stain is still fresh. It is great for stains from ballpoint pens or felt tip markers.
- First, try to extract as much of the ink as possible with a soft and dry cloth or paper towel.
- Apply a leather cleaner to the spot, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Moisten a cotton bud and gently rub it from the edges to the middle of the spot.
The ink should start transferring on the cotton. Change the cotton bud as soon as you think it has absorbed as much ink as it can.
- When the ink stains are completely removed use a hair dryer on where the stain used to be.
- Apply a leather conditioner.
